In the production of the new Kumho KW23 Izen XW is used a revolutionary technology in the production of winter tires – three-dimensional sipes. They have unique property to lock themselves depending on the road surface. Thus allowing drivers to take the maximum advantage of the vehicle regardless of the weather conditions.
The special zigzag sipes help maintain block rigidity and create more biting edges for enhanced snow and ice traction. At lower speeds the 3D sipes are open and flexible giving extended grip in snowy and icy conditions but in dry conditions they provide high pattern stiffness giving extremely stable driving characteristics and excellent dry handling. This is because under faster and higher-load conditions the sipes lock together, which results in further improved shoulder rigidity.
The design of the across deployed channels in the form of an arc contributes to the effective drainage of water, snow and sleet, decreasing the risk of hydroplaning and maintaining maximum control onto any road surface.
The shape of the central rib, the sipes on it and the two-directional grooves along its length improve performance while acceleration, sudden braking and cornering even in the worst winter weather conditions. In the production of KW23 Izen XW are used technologies controlling the distribution of silica in the rubber.
Thereby retain the properties of the tire mixture at temperatures well bellow 0ºC, and ensure greater stability of the tread.
