|02.2006 Yokohama Provides OEMs with Concept Tires for Concept Cars at North American International Auto Show
FULLERTON, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2006) – Yokohama Tire Corporation, known for its uncompromising performance, is proud to have been chosen as the tire that equips two groundbreaking, next-generation hybrid concept cars: the Mitsubishi Concept-CT Sport Compact Car and Subaru B5-TPH. A third, performance-tuned Scion Concept Car has also been fitted with Yokohama concept tires. All are showcased at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit opened to the public January 14-22.
“We’re thrilled OEMs have chosen Yokohama tires in their concept car designs and process,” said Jeff Carpenter, Yokohama Manager, OE Sales and Marketing. “Concept cars play an important role in creating a buzz for the media and public by offering a glimpse into the future of car design. They also give us a chance to test new tire technologies and procedures, as well as work closely with OEMs.”
Yokohama’s ultra-low profile 245/30R20 90Y PARADA concept tires are fitted on Mitsubishi’s Concept-CT hybrid sport compact car. The world-debut offering showcases Mitsubishi’s in-wheel electric vehicle motors (MIEV) and high energy-density lithium-ion batteries as core technologies. The hatchback rides on 20-inch wheels thrust out to the corners. Mitsubishi Design Center designed the tires, which were hand-built by Yokohama technicians.
Subaru’s B5-TPH features hand-cut, low-profile Yokohama ADVAN concept tires. The concept spotlights Subaru’s Turbo Parallel Hybrid (TPH) powertrain system and lithium-ion battery technology in a sporty two-seat grand touring car. The 245/45R19 ADVAN tires feature a unique tread pattern designed to complement the B5-TPH’s 19-inch wheels.
The neon yellow Scion tC tuned by Injen shows what’s possible on one of today’s most popular sport compact platforms. The Scion tC features 18-inch wheels with Yokohama ultra-low profile 235/40ZR18 PARADA concept tires.
