Run Flat гума For Pirelli Pirelli, there is more to tyre development than attaining ultimate performance. As active components within the automotive system, tyres are called upon to play a "preventative" role in terms of safety and comfort, even in the extreme case of a puncture. In this sense, the products featuring Pirelli's self-supporting Run Flat technology represent the most comprehensive approach to road safety and driving pleasure issues; the ability to keep driving, even with a flat tyre, while maintaining complete control of the vehicle. Pirelli Run Flat tires allow you to maintain directional control and to continue your journey in complete safety for 80-150 km (50-93 miles) at a maximum speed of 80km/h (50mph)*.

Run Flat

The combined use of Pirelli self-supporting Run Flat tyres and Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) such as X-PRESSURE equipped with acoustic and visual alerts provide the driver with real time warnings of any drop in pressure, allowing confident handling of the situation and plenty of time to reach a service centre that will deal with the problem.

A reliable construction, from sidewall to sidewall

The guarantee of mobility offered by the Pirelli self-supporting Pirelli tyre derives from it's self-supporting construction featuring elastomeric reinforcements inserted into the sidewalls. The sidewall structure is therefore capable of supporting the lateral and transversal loads imposed by the vehicle even in the absence of air pressure.

Run FlatThe flexure dynamics and the generation of heat by the sidewalls have been the focus of Pirelli research projects, the innovations deriving from which, are intended to meet extreme safety standards when running with reduced pressure, both in a straight line and through corners. The study of tyre behaviour in diverse situations has also allowed the entire structure of the carcass to be revised to maintain the levels of performance, comfort and reliability that distinguish Pirelli products in the high performance segment.

Active and Passive Intelligence
Pirelli's engineers have worked on the tyre structure with the objective of guaranteeing the driveability of the vehicle. In fact, a standard under-inflated tyre modifies the handling of a car - introducing under steer or over steer - according to whether the loss of pressure or the puncture is on the front or back axle. The result is remarkable; in terms of practicality, driving sensations and also from the technical point of view thanks to the characteristics that boost general performance on any road surface and in all atmospheric conditions.

A project with solid foundations
Run FlatSelf-supporting Run Flat tyres are the result of the innovative Pirelli MIRS™ production process entirely overseen by computers that guarantees an end result characterized by the highest standards of quality and reliability.

The technological supremacy achieved by Pirelli has laid the foundations for a self-supporting Run Flat product also in the ultra-high performance segment, with 19" and 20" sizes offered with aspect ratios of 30 and 35. In this case, the structure and materials are appropriately uprated to cope with the extreme stresses generated by heavier and more powerful sports cars.

Operating Requirements

• Run Flat tyres have been developed based on the specifications of the vehicles on which they are mounted. Accordingly, Run Flat tyres may only be mounted on vehicles specifically manufactured to accommodate Run Flat tyres.
• Run Flat tyres must be mounted in conjunction with a functional Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The mounting of tyres and installation of the TPMS should be carried out by a specialised dealer.
• Pirelli certifies that after pressure loss, Run Flat tyres can continue to run for 80-150 km (50-93 miles) at a maximum speed of 80km/h (50 mph). Always refer to the vehicle owner's manual with respect to specific safety and operating information relating to the vehicle.
• After low pressure warning is shown, the condition of the remaining tyres and the TPMS should be immediately checked by a specialised dealer.
• A tyre should always be changed and not repaired after a loss of pressure, as it is not always possible to establish the time and conditions under which the tyre has been used with insufficient inflation pressure.
• Damaged Run Flat tyres, or Run Flat tyres that have experienced a loss of pressure should be immediately replaced with another Run Flat tyre of identical size and service description (Load Index and Speed Code). Pirelli recommends that a tyre of a different type, or which contains a different load index or speed code, should never be mounted on the same vehicle.
• After a loss of pressure, the rims should be inspected to ensure they haven't been damaged. Damaged or deformed rims should always be replaced prior to mounting a new Run Flat tyre. Pirelli recommends the use of Extended Hump rims (EH2), which reduce the risk of bead unseating in case of loss of pressure.
• Pirelli reserve the right to modify the data contained in this communication without notice.

Tyre Range
Produced utilising revolutionary MIRS™ (Modular Integrated Robotized System) technology, all the Pirelli run-flat products, available in 4 tread patterns (Eufori@™, P Zero Nero™ M+S, Winter SOTTOZERO™, Winter Snowport™) ensure both Active and Passive safety.

Active safety • Secure dry and wet handling, braking efficiency and resistance to aquaplaning.
• The vehicle can be driven in total safety even following a sudden loss of pressure. Road holding, handling and steering precision are maintained.

Passive safety Extended mobility, even when a punct
ure occurs: at zero pressure the vehicle is not immobilised and the driver can rely on a run-flat range of 80-150 km (50-93 miles) at 80 km/h (50 mph).
